FISHING METHOD:  Floating line with 10 -18 Ft leader.  Use a slow retrieve (6 - 8 seconds for each hand twist) with a couple 2 - 3 inch pulls every 25 - 30 seconds. Try this pattern in the spring or fall before or after turnover. I have fished this pattern when the wind has stirred up the shoals or mud bottom.

 Hook  Teck twin NF 200 size 8 - 16
 Bead  Black – 3/32 or 1/8 inch
 Thread  8/0 Red
 Tail  Marabou - Red
Underbody  Holograph tinsel – medium red
 Ribbing  Red wire - fine
 Body  Red acetate floss

TYING NOTES:

  1. First pinch your barb down.

  2. Slide the bead on your hook with the smaller hole facing forward.

  3. Start your tying thread behind the bead, and lay down a thread base.

  4. Tie in a small amount of marabou for the tail.

  5. Tie in your ribbing the length of the hook shank.

  6.  Split the acetate floss in half, and tie in the floss the length of the body, leaving your tying thread at the head of the fly.

  7. Tie in a piece of holograph tinsel at the head of the fly.

  8. Wrap the tinsel down and up the body, tying it off at the back of the bead.

  9. Counter wrap the rib forward (7 - 9 wraps) and tie off.

  10. Neatly wrap the floss forward and tie off.

  11. Whip finish the fly.

  12. While holding the tail, dip the fly in Acetone for a few seconds to melt the Acetate floss.

I received this pattern from Calvin Kuperus, good friend of mine. The body colour can be tied in red, olive-green, tan, or light brown. Try different holograph tinsel colours to change the body tint.
