FISHING METHOD: Floating line with 10 -18 Ft leader. Use a strike indicator to help keep your fly at the feeding depth. Use a slow retrieve (6 - 8 seconds for each hand twist) with a couple 2 - 3 inch pulls every 25 - 30 seconds. You can also use a sinking line. Cast out and wait till the line is straight before you use the above retrieve.

Hook  Curved shrimp hook size 10 - 16
 Thread  8/0 Olive
 Ribbing  Silver wire - fine
Body  Super floss - Caddis green
 Thorax  Pheasant tail (2 - 4 strands)

TYING NOTES:

  1.  First pinch your barb down, tie in the thread base.

  2. Tie in the ribbing material the length of the hook.

  3. Tie in the body material at the thorax. Stretch the super floss as you secure it to the hook shank with tying thread.

  4. Wrap the body forward to the thorax and tie off.

  5. Counter wrap the rib 1 - 2 turns around the butt, then forward (5 - 7 wraps) and tie off.

  6. Tie in the pheasant tail fibres, and twist together.

  7.  Wrap the twisted fibres 2 - 4 times to build the thorax.

  8. Tie off the thorax, and whip finish the fly.

  9. I add head cement to the thread before whip finishing. This keeps the cement away from the herl, and strengthens the knot.

I received this pattern from Brian Chan. You can tie this fly with a brown body or a caddis green body. Another version to try uses the same body as above, but replace the thorax with an ex-small gold bead. Try ether version in a clear lake (White lake, Roche, and Lac Des Roche) and in the summer months. Let me know your results.
