FISHING METHOD: I have fished this pattern with both
floating and sinking lines. In shallow water, use a slow pull retrieve
with several short 2 to 4 inch pulls every 15-20 seconds. On sinking lines
let the fly sink near the bottom before you start your retrieve. I use a 3
to 4 second full hand twist with several 2 to 6 inch pulls to retrieve the
fly. Try trolling this fly with a sinking line. |

1. Pinch your barb down on the hook. |
|
2. Lay down a thread base on the shank of the hook. |
|
3. Tie in the several fibres for the tail. |
|
4. Wrap the remaining Pheasant rump up the hook shank, stopping 1/8 inch from the eye of the hook. |
|
5. Tie off the body material. |
|
6. Optional – Counter wind the ribbing material up the body and tie off the rib. |
|
7. Tie in the green saddle feather at the eye and wrap the feather around the shank two twice to build a hackle collar. |

8. Fold the fibres back with each 1/2 wrap. |
|
9. Build a small head by wrapping over some of the hackle fibres. |
|
10. Whip finish and cement the head of fly. |
