FISHING METHOD: Floating line with 10 -18 Ft leader. Use the count down to put the fly off the bottom. Use a slow to medium retrieve (3 - 4 seconds for each full hand twist) with a few quick pull (3 - 6 inch) after every three or four hand twists.
| Hook | Curved shrimp hook size 10 - 14 |
| Thread | 6/0 or 8/0 to match body |
| Tail | Olive hares ear plus dubbing |
| Ribbing | Gold wire fine (5 - 7 wraps) |
| Weight | Lead or lead-substitute wire |
| Body | Olive hares ear plus dubbing |
| Shellback | Scud back, stretch flex, or plastic baggie |
TYING NOTES:
First pinch your barb down, lay down a thread base.
Wrap the weight ¾ the length the shank, and secure it with tying thread.
Tie in the tail, using a pinch of dubbing.
Tie in the ribbing material the length of the hook.
Cut a V shape with the end of the shellback material. This will help with tying in the shellback. Make a dubbing loop, secure it, and wrap the thread to the head of the hook.
Put small amounts of dubbing between the loop.
Twist the loop together and wrap it up the body. Tie off the loop.
Pull the shellback over the top of the body, tie off.
Wrap the ribbing forward (5 - 7 wraps) and tie off.
Build a small head, and whip finish the fly.
Pick out the dubbing between the ribs. This will give the fly legs.
