Fly Tied and Photo taken by Andy King

FISHING METHOD:  I have fished this pattern with both floating and sinking lines. In shallow water, use a slow pull retrieve with several short 2 to 4 inch pulls every 15-20 seconds. On sinking lines let the fly sink near the bottom before you start your retrieve. I use a 3 to 4 second full hand twist with several 2 to 6 inch pulls to retrieve the fly. Try trolling this fly with a sinking line.

 Hook

 Wet Nymph Size 10 - 2x

 6/0 or 8/0 black I use UTC #140

 Tail

 Teal

 Butt

 Red or Orange Acetate Floss

 Body

 Peacock Herl

 Hackle/Wing

TYING NOTES:

1.    Pinch your barb down on the hook.

2.    Lay down a thread base on the shank of the hook.

3.    Tie in the several Teal fibres for the tail.

4.    Tie in acetate floss and wrap a small tag about a 1/8-inch long. Tie off the floss and add whip-finish the fly.

5.    Dip the fly in Acetone for 15 seconds to give the Acetate floss a hard shiny finish.

6.    Tie in the peacock herl in front of the floss tag. Wrap the herl up the hook shank to the 3/4-point.

7.     Tie in the peacock breast feather by the tip and make sure the natural bend of the hackle fibres face toward the back of the hook. Fold the fibres back with each 1/2 wrap.

8.    Clip the butt ends, whip finish and cement the head of fly.

This is one of the best wet flies that I have used in the interior of B.C.

If you want action - tie this fly up - hang onto your fly rod for lots of Rainbows!
