Fly Tied and Photo taken by Ruben Breitkreutz

This is another pattern that was tied at Brian Chan’s seminar. Try using this pattern when the wind has stirred up the bottom of the lake. Try this pattern in red or green.

FISHING METHOD: Floating line with 10 -18 Ft leader. Use a strike indicator to help keep your fly at the feeding depth. Use a slow retrieve (6 - 8 seconds for each hand twist) with a couple 2 - 3 inch pulls every 25 - 30 seconds. You can also use a sinking line. Cast out and let your line sink straight down. Use the same retrieve as above well into your leader. Fish will follow the hook up before taking it.

Hook  Caddis curved, straight eye size 12
 Thread  8/0 Burgundy or Maroon
Bead  White metal bead (1/8 inch-small)
 Ribbing  Silver wire - fine (5 - 7 wraps)
Body  Stretch flex - Chocolate brown

TYING NOTES:

  1. First  pinch your barb down, slide bead on the hook.

  2. Tie in a thread base of maroon thread. you can change the color of the body by changing the thread color.

  3. Tie in the ribbing material the length of the hook.

  4. Cut the stretch flex in a V-shape. This will make it easier to tie in. Tie in the stretch flex.

  5. Wrap your thread forward, building a tapered body to the bead.

  6. Wrap the body material forward.

  7. Tie off with several wraps of thread at the back of the bead.

  8.  Wrap two turns of ribbing at the butt of the fly, then rib forward in the opposite direction.

  9. Tie off behind the bead, and cover the back 1/3 -1/2 of the bead.

  10. Whip finish the fly.

To tie this pattern in green, use green thread and olive stretch flex.
