FISHING METHOD:  I have fished this pattern with both floating and sinking lines. In shallow water, use a slow pull retrieve with several short 2 to 4 inch pulls every 15-20 seconds. On sinking lines let the fly sink near the bottom before you start your retrieve. I use a 3 to 4 second full hand twist with several 2 to 6 inch pulls to retrieve the fly. Try trolling this fly with a sinking line.

TYING NOTES:

  1. Pinch your barb down on the hook.
  2. Lay down a thread base on the shank of the hook.
  3. Tie in the several fibers for the tail.
  4. Wind crystal chenille up the hook shank, stopping 1/8 inch from the eye of the hook.
  5. Tie off the body material.
  6. Tie in the pheasant rump feathers by the tip and give 3 turns.
  7. Build a small head by wrapping over some of the hackle fibers.
  8. Whip finish and cement the head of fly.

Give this pattern a try next spring.
