This is another pattern that I received from Brian Chan at the 2002
Outdoor Show.
FISHING METHOD:
I
have fished this pattern on both floating and sinking lines. In shallow
water, use a slow pull retrieve with several short 2 to 4 inch pulls
every 15-20 seconds. In the evening, you may want to speed up your
retrieve. On sinking lines let the fly sink near the bottom before you
start your retrieve. I use a 3 to 4 second full hand twist with several
2 to 6 inch pulls to retrieve the fly. |
| Hook | Mustad R-72, size 10-2x or 12-3x |
| Thread | 6/0 or 8/0 brown or tan |
| Bead #1 | Small Conehead - copper/black/silver/gold |
|
Bead # 2 |
Medium red glass bead |
| Tail | Arizona Synthetic dubbing- Canadian Olive or Brown-Olive |
| Body | Arizona Synthetic dubbing- Canadian Olive or Brown-Olive |
|
1.
Pinch your barb down and slide the conehead on the hook.
2.
Slide the glass bead against the conehead.
3.
Start the tying thread behind the glass bead and lay a thread base down
on the shank of the hook.
4.
Twist and tie in a small amount of body material for the tail.
5.
Form a dubbing loop and add the body material in the loop in sparse
quantities.
6.
Twist the loop in to a dubbing noodle.
7.
Pull the fibres in one direction before you wind the noodle up the hook
shank.
8.
Whip finish and brush the fibres back.
9.
Soak the fly in hot water to take the memory out of the body and tail
material.
CAUTION:
Be sure to hang on to your rod while fishing this pattern. Good Luck! |
