FISHING METHOD :Floating line with 10 -16 Ft leader. Cast this fly to rising trout, and fish it dead drift or with a slight twitch.                                                                                                                                             

I picked up this ant pattern from the BC F.F.F.  A.G.M. tying demonstrations in Penticton.

 Hook  Dry fly size 14
 Thread  8/0 black
 Body  Peacock herl / red floss

 Wing

 Elk hair
 Thorax  Peacock herl (2 - 3 strands )
 Hackle  Brown hackle

TYING NOTES:

  1. First pinch your barb, then lay a thread base down.
  2. Tie in the peacock herl (2 strands), wrap 1/3 up the hook shank.
  3. Tie in the red floss, wrap 1/3 up the shank.
  4. Tie in the wing (the length of elk hair should equal to the shank of the hook).
  5. Tie in the brown hackle (dull side facing you ), tie in the peacock herl.
  6. Wrap the peacock forward, and tie off.
  7. Wrap the hackle (3 -5 times) forward, remember to leave enough room for a small thread head.
  8. Whip finish and cement the head of the fly.
